Sports and HDTV
March 30, 2003 has been a landmark day as far as HDTV broadcasting is concerned. On that day ESPN for the first time telecast sports on HDTV when they showed the a match from Major League Baseball between the Anaheim Angels and the Texas Rangers. From that day onwards sports buffs have realized how different their experience of sporting events can be with an HDTV. An HDTV can almost make you feel as if you have been transported to the box seat for the game. A complete audio-visual treat, HDTV makes the whole viewing experience life-like.
The best deal about this is you don't have to stand in a queue to get your tickets, need not worry about parking your car and other such hassles which you have to live up with if you go for a game, and yet, you will get to enjoy almost the same atmosphere that you have in the gaming arena.
There are three prime reasons to switch to HDTV:
The amazing picture clarity that HDTV offers is simply mind blowing. With wider screen, better resolution, and crisp and clear sound, HDTV brings you right to the edge of the field. The sharpness of the image allows you to clearly track balls which are moving at speeds of more than 100 mph. every minute detail from the sweat on a player's forehead to the mud on their jersey is crystal clear. This is possible because HDTV has a resolution which is five times more than normal analog televisions.
Since there are no 'ghosts' or 'snow' with an HDTV programming the sporting events are telecast for the first time as they are meant to be.
With 5.1 digital surround sound the viewing experience is further enhanced. The sound that is transmitted makes you feel that you have booked your place right among the fans of the two teams. Plus you will also get to hear sounds that are not even heard if you are in the arena. For example, the swish of a basketball as it cuts through the air, or the whipping sound from a baseball bat. This is an experience that has never been before enjoyed by television audiences.
The final reason to switch to HDTV would be the increasing sports programs that are being offered through HDTV.
As the support for HDTV grows among viewers, more networks will broadcast the sporting events in HDTV. Also there is the deadline set by FCC, which would also give a push to the HDTV thing.

Entertainment Technology: What to Consider Before Buying HDTV
HDTV ? or, High Definition Television ? is the new generation of TV, and is capable of displaying analog signals as well as those that are digital in nature. Whilethis offers a viewing experience that's unmatched, it alsorequires external hardware in order to receive the HDTV signals in addition to the monitor. In other words, plan on spending a lot of money. If money isn't the issue, thenHDTV is for you. Before you run out and make a purchase, however, there are some things that you'll need to consider.Even if your TV is "HDTV-ready," that doesn't necessarily mean that it will be capable of displaying the HDTV signal. It has to be compatible, and you'll need to make sure that it is before you make a purchasing commitment.
It will need to be able to display the actual HDTV signal, or it isn't really HDTV at all. Another consideration is whether or not the HDTV receiver is compatible with the monitor that you'll be using. Finally, if you're using cable, the whole configuration will...

Long Beach, CA (ContentDesk via ContentDesk Direct) December 22, 2005 -- Digigami today announced its new MegaPEG HD MPEG-2 VBR encoder is capable of matching and, in some cases, exceeding the picture quality while offering reduced bitrates compared to current H.264 encoders.Recently, Sony Pictures senior VP of advanced technologies, Don Ecklund, was blasted for his assertions about MPEG-2 video quality in defense of Sony's decision to release HD MPEG-2 encoded feature films on Blu-Ray discs. Digigami's own research and actual MPEG encoder output (sample movies available at http://www.digigami.com/megapeg/hdtv_samples.php) verify Ecklund's claims that MPEG-2 can and will continue to achieve quality/bitrates comparable to H.264 for the next generation of optical disc formats, including Blu-Ray and HD-DVD.New Advances in MPEG-2 VBR Encoding squeeze Hi-Def MPEG-2...
